PR, Ocean View, and a Muffin: Encinitas Half Marathon Race Recap

  A couple weekends ago, I raced the Encinitas Half Marathon.  The short recap: Beautiful fast course. Mostly flat, with a couple sneaky hills (one around mile 12). Cute town, and friendly people.  Great race swag. Only minor negatives: race shirts seemed to run big, and race gear drop off could use some improvement. Other than that, a GREAT race overall.   Now, for a wordy race report: Encinitas is about 2 hours away from home. Year End Totals

76,769 yards swimming, 968 miles cycling, 2020 mile running. 2 marathons (each a new PR). 1 sprint distance triathlon (3rd in age group.) 1 Ironman. Another 365 days of running to add to my streak. Looking back, I have to be happy with (and grateful for) my accomplishments this year. It was a year of pushing myself further with a new goal (2017 miles in the year), and pushing myself harder for new personal records in the marathon (4:35:40 — beating my previous time by 24 minutes).  I even was able to finish another Ironman along the way. 2017 in 2017

When I set out to run 2017 miles this year, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to do it.   In 2016, I’d run 1,450 miles, and I thought that was a lot.  To top it off, in 2016, having started my running streak at the beginning of the year, I had run every day.  That meant that I needed to add 567 miles in the same number of days (actually one less day, as 2016 was a leap year).
